In this post: MP8017 schematic & reference design

I previously asked about using an external 24v power supply with the MP8017 but got no response as to any recommended layouts.

Unlike other ICs in the MP007x series the MP8017 datasheet doesn’t specify a formal way to bypass the IC and enable aux power.

  • Can we supply a 24v DC feed to the VBUS rail as long as we prevent reverse flow back to the IC?
  • Will the SW pin sink that power or would we need to bypass that pin too when using an external supply?

Hi Neil,

From my understanding, I don’t believe you can use 24V adapter with this because the VDD UVLO is above this voltage.
If you are looking to use a 24V adapter with a 5Vout or 12Vout reference solution, you can also refer to MP8009 which supports both 802.3af and 802.3at.
