MP2722 USB connection

My question follows on from the discussion regarding the possibility of connecting a USB device and the MP2722. If I am only ever going to use a USB-C PD compatible charger, can I leave the USB D+/D- lines unconnected to the MP2722 and use them to connect a USB device?

Hello @nick.goddard ,

The D+/D- lines should be used if you would like the MP2722 to be able to perform the BC1.2 charging protocol and to be able to communicate with non C to C cables. If the part will only be used under USB-C PD charging, implying only C to C cables will be used, only the CC pins are needed.
That said, it should not add cost or too much complexity to include the traces to D+/D-, so it might be good to add them in case the device you make is ever charged with a non PD charger.

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for the information regarding non-BC1.2 charging. We will have separate charging and data ports to avoid the issue of non-PD chargers.

Best regards,
Nick
