What is different between MP9942 and MP9942A

Dear MPS,
I am looking at MP9942 and MP9942A, but looks they are the same. could you please let me know what is the different? is MP9942A is automotive qualified? many thanks.
Jenny

Usually what “A” means is they found some problem that we don’t want to mention but need to improve.

Imagine you are a semiconductor company and you introduce a part. It does quite well, Apple and Google are buying in large amounts, yay! Life is great.

Then some tiny customer finds a problem with your part. Some combination of components, temperatures whatever that causes your part to malfunction. Now what?

I know lets fix the problem and introduce an A version.

Now imagine you are an apps engineer and somebody asks you this question.
Can you say “that part is no good” no you cannot unless you want to be an ex apps engineer.

What you do instead is say the A part is recommended why don’t you use that one.

Hi Jenny,

The main difference between these parts is the light load mode. The MP9942 utilizes AAM power-save mode to optimize for efficiency at light loads. The MP9942A utilizes forced CCM to optimize for ripple at light loads.
These parts are not automotive qualified, but if you are looking for automotive qualified bucks, you can check out the section of the website below.
