The input capacitor is used to decouple VIN in order to provide better stability and voltage ripple. In general, the following equation, when solved for C1, can be used to estimate how much of the input capacitance would be needed based on the input ripple desired. We need to make sure the capacitor has enough effective capacitance according to the input voltage.
