Hello,
our company is seeking an MPPT chip solution for Solar Charging System. Please recommend a few suitable chip models and provide their specifications, reference schematic designs, and other relevant documentation.
First, the solar panel has an open-circuit voltage of 6V and a short-circuit current of 12.9mA. For detailed parameters, please refer to the attachment.
Second, The charging cut-off voltage for the rear-stage rechargeable lithium battery is 4.2V.
Third, the MPPT should simultaneously power the lithium battery and the downstream load(total is 0.3A to 3A), which load is about 3V. This means that the load-supplying voltage of the MPPT is required to be a stepped-down and adjustable voltage, and it would be preferable if it could be separated from the lithium battery’s charging voltage.
Fourth, our solar panel operates at 6V, and when charging the lithium battery, the voltage needs to be stepped down to 4.2V. Direct charging at this voltage conversion has relatively low efficiency, so we want to implement MPPT technology to improve charging efficiency.
Fifth, ideally the MPPT should include built-in protection features for the lithium battery, including overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage, and undercurrent monitoring.

Hello, welcome to the MPS Forums!
One question, I see that the model number calls for 2S1P, which corresponds to 2 series cells, however the voltage seems to reflect 1 cell?
Depending on the answer to that question, I would recommend looking into the datasheet of the following Solar Charger that we offer:
MEZS7-SolarCharger | 18W, 4.5A, 1s MPPT solar input charger solution | MPS
This is the following charger that would be used for the MPPT solution as posted above:
MP2731 | Single Cell 4.5A Fast Charger with NVDC Power Path, OTG, and Integrated ADC | MPS
Here is an application note for the MPPT Charger for even more information:
MP2731 – Single-Cell Switching Charger with MC96F1206 | Reference Design | MPS
In case the 2-cell option is needed based on the nomenclature, here are a few other chargers to consider:
Hope this all provided some insight. Let me know what works.
Best,
Krishan
hello,
the battery is 1 cell 4.2V LI-ion,but the solar panel is 2s1p,the model number calls for 2S1P is for solar panel just.
the mp2731 need a mcu to do MPPT fuction,it is not suit for us,is there a IC to do MPPT just by hareware IC?
Understood on the battery scheme, figured it was a single cell application given your voltage.
You could just use the charger IC, but the MCU in the MEZS7-SolarCharger has the MPPT algorithm that maximizes the MPPT Power Tracking and controls the MP2731 as such.
Best,
Krishan
