The MP8017 on the EVL8017-L-00A restarts when a small10uF capacitor is connected afterwards on the 12V output. The capacitor causes a small charge spike which causes a restart. The 12V output voltage is lost for a second. That is sensitive behaviour.
This can be suppressed by adding an extra 220uF on the output but is feels like a wrong trigger of some security feature. Is the a better way around this problem?
It sounds like you may be tripping some sort of over current protection when the 10uF capacitor is connected. Unfortunately, it looks like the current limits on the MP8017 are preset and cannot be changed. I would suggest adding more output capacitance (which you have done with the extra 220uF) to help absorb the transient, or add some kind of soft start for whatever capacitive load your 10uF capacitor is meant to simulate.
Note that the device does have a soft start feature already, so if you power on the device with all your capacitive loads on the output already attached, I don’t think you’ll be running into this issue.
