Query on Fault LED Behavior – MPQ5069GQV-AEC1-Z

Hi Team,

Currently we are using the IC MPQ5069GQV-AEC1-Z in our design. We have set the current limit to 8A. For validation, we are using a CR Load. If the load current exceeds more than 8A, the device enters auto-retry mode.

In this case, how will the FAULT LED behave? Will it glow solid or will it blink?.

If you are asking for what behavior to look for in the case of an over-current fault, please read into the following paragraph, where you should see the FLTB pin being driven low for 20us:

Is this LED that you are referring to on the EVB? Are you using your own board for this? How is this LED connected in reference to FLTB?

Hi Krishan,

We are using the MPQ5069GQV-AEC1-Z with the current limit set to 8 A. During validation, we tested using two different CR loads from different manufacturers. When the load current exceeds 8 A, we observed two different fault LED behaviors: with one load, the fault LED glows solid, while with the other, the fault LED blinks (appears to be auto-retry). Both tests were performed under the same conditions. Could you please confirm which behavior is expected during auto-retry.

I have attached the schematics below for your reference & also attached the waveform taken during the retry mode.

Hello Abdul,

Here are some inconsistencies between the typical application and the EVB schematic:

  1. The FLTB should be pulled up with a 100kOhm resistor as specified by the datasheet (as opposed to 1.5k).
  2. Please replace the pull up resistor of the PG pin with the 510kOhm resistor as used here in the typical application (as opposed to 1.5k).

These are the biggest differentiators between your design and the typical application.

Having pull-up resistors that are too low lead to increased power consumption, heat, and in some cases false triggers (which could be what is happening here).

Keep me updated on what happens in practice with these changes.

Best,

Krishan
