I have several projects for which I need a motor to drive output at about 180 rpm, and with torque about 4 foot-pounds. The type of motors used in scooters seem like a possibility, if I can get a good form factor and speed-variable driver, and good price. Features Needed: I need the motor to maintain close-to-constant speed even with variable load per revolution. And, I’d like to control whatever driver with a small microcomputer like an Arduino. I’ve successfully used stepper motors, but there is vibration, and difficult to run fast enough from microcontroller.
Power/System Requirements: ~0.2 or more horsepower, prefer from DC electric source. Any suggestions for an appropriate type of motor and driver, or even a specific motor and driver? Thank you!
Hi Brian,
Thanks for reaching out to the forum! I see you’re looking for motor driver reccomendations.
MPS Carries motor drivers for different applications. I have a few follow-up questions to get you the best part for your application.
What kind of motor are you using?
What kind of digital interface are you looking to use? Enable and PWM inputs? or I2C?
Can you provide the voltage and current specs you need?
In the meantime, here are a few links for you to see the different offerings for different applications. If you click on one of the blocks, it will take you to a few different parts that are commonly used in DC motor applications:
