MPS3695GPJ-20-2222 output voltage regulation in idle

Dear support team,

I use the MPS3695GPJ-20-2222 module to generate 5V. Resistor voltage divider is defined according the recommendation from datasheet. At no-load after power-up, the voltage starts at 5.2V, regulates up to 5.8V, and then shuts down. An over-current error is recorded in the error log. If the module is immediately loaded with a 3A load, the 5V voltage remains stable, and I can increase the load up to 20A. However, as soon as I reduce the load below 3A, regulation errors occur. The voltage regulates down and up until the module shuts down. The settings over PMBus are not changed and still defaults (Vout 1,8V Vscale 0,335).

Does the issue persist when you change the Vout and Vscale to 5V and 0.12 respectively?

I would also recommend changing the switching frequency to either 800kHz or 1MHz since this on the higher voltage output end.

Let me know what happens after trying this out on the GUI.

Thanks for support. I have changed the Vout 5.0V and Vscale 0.12 parameter and the switching frequency to 800kHz. Now the module work stabile from idle to full load. I use the same module for 3,3V. Would you recommend to change the Vout, Vscale and 800kHz paramter to?

Hello Richard,

I would recommend the same sort of procedure for your 3.3V rail as well. Compare the performance of the module between 1MHz and 800kHz and see what works for you.

For any voltage for the MPM3695-20, a higher switching frequency would be best. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I have tested with 800kHz and 1000kHz. With 1000kHz switching frequency the module has better efficiency and is 5°C cooler.

I would encourage the usage of this switching frequency for both your 3.3V and 5V rails. You can double check the temps for 3.3V if you haven’t already.
