MPQ6517B HALL detection question

Dear support member,

My customer considering MPQ6517B.

I have a question.

Q1
This driver has HALL detection.
Is it possible to drive a DC motor with HALL detection disabled?

Q2
Will MPQ6517B be used with either I2C or PWM?
Or is it possible to use them at the same time?

If it possible to use them at the same time,
would you teach how to connect?

Best regard.

Hi Hideyuki,

Let me check on the hall detection, it may be smart to use a different MPS device without hall sensing if your motor will not be using hall sensors.

The MPQ6517B can use both PWM and I2C, but is mainly used with PWM. You can see more about how to use both on the “Test Mode” section of the datasheet on page 12.

Please let me know what you think here. If your motor does not need hall sensing, it may be beneficial to move to another device. If so, please let me know and I can help to give a better recommendation. If you would like potentially quicker support, please contact MPS Now at mpsnow@monolithicpower.com.

Dear brendan,

Thank you very much for your answer.

Please confirm about the hall detection.
Hall detection is required.

Best regard.

Hi Hideyuki,

Thank you for your patience, I realize now that you’ve had some correspondence with some of our local Japan engineers so I’m going to have them reach out to you again. They will be able support you much more efficiently, so please be on the lookout for a message from my MPS Japan counterparts.

Thanks,
Brendan
