Mpq4242 fast charging ic issue

Hi,
i"m working on a fast charger based on mpq4242. the circuit was all working fine as long as i was charging my phone using it. but when i connected, a tantalum capacitor connected at the output suddenly burnt out. the circuit is not working even after i changed the cap. laptop charger voltage rating is 20v,3.25A. input voltage applied to the circuit was 18v. as per the datasheet, it is mentioned that the Vin Max for the mpq4242 is 36v. i suspect the ic is damaged. can someone please explain what might have happened?

Hi arun1,

Please check if the device has output shorted to ground. This can give you the quickest indication of possible damage.

What was the voltage rating of the tantalum capacitor?
Is it possible other caps on the output got damaged, not just the tantalum?
