we are interested in the MPQ2908A-AEC1 and we would like to understand if we could exploit the Current Limit Function (Hiccup mode) to implement a pre-charge of an high capacitive component.
We would like to set a limit current around 2/3A to charge a 15mF capacitor bank at 12V.
Do you see any issue? Is it possible to do so?
Thanks,
AS
You can use the MPQ2908A’s hiccup current limit to pre-charge a large capacitor (e.g. 15 mF at 12 V), but it’s not ideal.
The chip limits peak inductor current, not a steady DC charge current, so the capacitor will charge in short bursts with long pauses (hiccup cycles), resulting in slow and uneven charging.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
