MPM3682 power consumption

Hello i am using the MPM3682 to generate a system 3.3V
I am seeing the the device is heating up, just was wondering if there is some error in the design
Please can you check attached schematics?

Many thanks in advance

Hello guitta,

I just wanted to let you know that this is a part that is not recommended for new design. The newer alternative is the MPM3683-10.

I took a look at your schematic and can see a few differences.

  1. a lot more input capacitance than our evb has
  2. PG resistor is 10k vs part evm 100k
  3. Your enable resistors seem to be much lower than the values on our evm of 100k and 51k

For your trim portion use the equations specified in the datasheet.

When laying out your board follow these recommendations as well.

How hot is too hot in your mind?

actually device is warm - probably also due to neighbour hotter components

just to give some numbers:

Vin = 12V
Vout = 3.3V
Iout[measured] = 2.66Amps ( system idle…]
Tambient: 24°C
Tcase: about 39°C
