MP9486A burst current duty cycle

Hello,

I am evaluating MP9486A for an application where there is burst current drawn up to 2A, with nominal load of 0.5A. My query is regarding what duty cycle of 2A burst current can be drawn by MP9486A at different load frequencies?

Hi prithvi,

Thank you for contacting the MPS Forum. This largely depends on the inductor and switching frequency you choose for this device. Keep in mind that the switching limit is capable of 3.5A, so you need to keep the ripple current below 3.5A. You can calculate for the inductor on page 13 of the datasheet with equation 2. You will then need to make sure this inductor limits your peak to peak current below 3.5A.
