MP8030 compensation component selection

We’re unable to obtain the TBSG25-40 transformer used in the MP8030 evaluation board, so we’re looking at using the EP475SG-10 instead. It has a Np:Ns:Na ratio of 1:0.5:0.55 and inductance of 37uH (instead of the 1:0.27:0.27 ratio and 55uH inductance of the TBSG25-40).

Is there any documentation available on selecting the components for loop compensation? It’s my understanding that changing the transformer requires these to be re-calculated.

Hello @jwfx,

Welcome to MPS forums. Since the transformer will have different turns ratio and primary transformer inductance than TBSG25-40, you will also need to calculate the associated loss with the leakage inductance, MOSFET voltage stress and peak drain current, RCD snubber components along with the loop compensation.

We don’t have a documentation available online at the moment. Please submit a ticket for us to provide design assistance

Hi @Saquib.FAE. I still haven’t heard back from MPS regarding my query over email.

Hello @jwfx,

Thank you for your patience. Can you share details of your query over the email? Have you submitted a ticket on the link I shared earlier? If not, please submit the ticket so we can expedite the process of providing the required design assistance.

I filled out the contact form on the 25th but haven’t heard back. Here’s the information I included in the submission:

We’re unable to obtain the TBSG25-40 transformer used in the MP8030 evaluation board, so we’re looking at using the EP475SG-10 instead. It has a Np:Ns:Na ratio of 1:0.5:0.55 and inductance of 37uH (instead of the 1:0.27:0.27 ratio and 55uH inductance of the TBSG25-40). We’re also unable to use the FDMS86250 power MOSFET from the evaluation board. We found the BSC190N15NS3G which appears to match the FDMS86250 reasonably well. How can we calculate the required components for use with these parts?

We need 12V/2.1A from the supply.

My email is the same as the one on my MPS account, happy to send it you over messaging.

Appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!
