MP8017 Reference Design for 3.3V output

Could MP8017 reference designs be modified to get 3.3V output? If so, is there a design guild or reference design?

Hello, I see that is your first time posting in the MPS forums, welcome!

There are two typical application reference schematics for the MP8017 datasheet where the output voltage is shown as 12V and 5V respectively.

As you can see, all recommended parts in these designs only change on the secondary side of the transformer.

One important thing to note is that this part has two operating modes:

  • PSR Mode, where the MP8017 senses the primary side through the FB pin and can be calculated with the following equation:
    image
Ifb = 100uA, Vdof = Output Diode’s Forward Drop Voltage,
Np = Primary Windings, Ns = Secondary Windings

  • SSR Mode, Output voltage is set by an external voltage regulator (TL431). More information about this mode can be found in the datasheet.

In summary, depending on which mode you will be using, the reference designs all indicate that changes to the output voltage will only yield changes to the secondary side of your circuit. But there are no official 3.3V designs of this part that I have seen.

Hope this helped.

Best,
Krishan
