I want to know the difference between Figure 7 and Figure 8 in the mp6951 datasheet.
In what situation should I choose Figure 7 and Figure 8?

The HVC connection at low end(HVC connected to output gnd) can help save power compared to HVC connection at high end(HVC connected to MOSFET Drain) as the HVC pin connected to high end will create voltage difference with VDD. Hence, the HVC connection at low end yield higher efficiency but at the expense of a diode.

For 5V output and high efficiency, I would recommend using Fig 8 configuration or HVC connected to output GND.
