MP3433 or MP3435 high side diode

Does the high-side low-drop diode continue to operate even when the input voltage is higher or about the same as the output voltage, so there is no need for the boost switching to occur?

The application is for a vintage or veteran car electrics to get more of the dynamos available power at low RPM. The high side diode therefore replaces as the electromechanical cut-out.

An Engineers Perspective: Vintage and Veteran Car dynamo power management

CHR and CHR are audio input signals to trigger an output voltage increase if sound is detected. That is it is a particularly specialised use case. Perhaps it can be over ridden? Either way I don’t need to be concerned about it!
