MP3302 WLED Backlight Circuit

Hi,

I have been working with the MP3302 Boost WLED Driver to drive a backlight for a 5 inch LCD. The backlight, which consists of 2 strings of 6 LEDs, has a forward voltage of 19.2V and an operating current of 20mA max. I’ve tried the reference design that appears in the datasheet and while the circuit works for a prototype, when connected to an actual LCD it is inconsistent, often not producing the desired voltage or current. There are other devices, such as the Diodes Incorporated AP3036, which are supported by a spreadsheet that details the exact circuit specifications. I wonder is there any such support information for the MP3302?

So what is going on in the LCD? You could just try hooking up a current limited bench supply to the LCD and characterize what the VI behavior of the backlight is. I expect the problem lies with the LCD or the understanding of what the LCD is.

Thank you for your reply. I don’t think I explained my request properly. I have the LCD I mentioned working successfully with several ICs (AP3032, MP3370 and several of my own designs) but every IC that I have used comes with substantially more documentation than the MP3302. There are no formulae and only a couple of example circuits. So I was simply wondering if there is any other documentation to support the IC other than the rather light data sheet listed.

Thank you for your help.
