I saw some similar topics but those are IC family specific so I’ll try to make a slightly different question:
- Can I use MP2980 or MP2984 without I2C? If yes, at which point in the documentation I could see the default parameters for the registers?
- I understand that MP28167 does not have I2C (different from -A, or -N) but that part has fixed 5V output voltage? Is there a part I could use that is for buck-boost topology 12Vin-12Vout without needing an I2C bus?
Hello,
If the default settings work for your system requirements, I believe you can use MP28167A as a standalone. The 12V output can be set with external resistive divider. You can find more information on pg 28 of the datasheet. You might not be able to monitor parameters such as what exact fault triggers ALT.

Hello Yu,
Thanks for the feedback. I did notice that the voltage setpoint can be determined by the external resistors, but what happens with the control frequency or the current limits?
EDIT:
Better question, if I base my design on EVL28167-A-Q-00A, may I set the output for 12V and use the same inductor / copper areas to get 3A out of this part? Or was this eval board validated only for an output of 5V?
Hi @pedro.arfeli ,
The evaluation board is set to 5V, however, you can adjust this for your 12V application. For inductor selection, I suggest following the application information in the datasheet. You can also refer to Table 1.

Yu
