I am looking to replace the MP2617 with something with fewer external components and better USB mode support. I found the MP2722 which looks great but realized it does not explicitly mention it can support varied system load while charging the battery or provide power to the system node when unplugged.
I was assuming it does this but wanted confirmation.

Yes, MP2722 has NVDC power path management. You can refer to page 18-19 of datasheet.
