MP2672 - Optional cell balancing

We have a mixture of 2S battery packs with and without a centre-of-pack balancing pin. Ideally we would like to be able to charge these packs with both the new chargers (MP2672 with balancing functionality) and the old chargers (without balancing functionality).

The datasheet recommends connecting MID to PGND directly when balancing functionality is not used. Clearly if we connect this pin to PGND then insert a battery with a cell balancing pin present, it will short out one of the cells.

Could we combat this by leaving MID floating when a battery without balance pin is inserted?

Since the MP2672 datasheet recommends connecting MID to PGND directly if the cell balance function is not needed, we advise not to leave the pin floating as it might affect the operation of the device.

If you want it to be disabled for some of the battery packs, you can try adding a jumper to GND or connect a 0 ohm resistor to GND.
