MP2658 big issue - battery charger

Dear Sir,

I hope this message finds you well.

I have implemented the same battery charging circuit—highlighted in blue in the attached schematic—across multiple PCBs. However, I continue to experience the same issue each time.

Issue details:

  1. On first power-up, the IC does not begin charging, and the LED flashes at approximately 10 Hz.
  2. After replacing the IC with a new one, the LED no longer turns on at all.
  3. The IC doesn’t detect the battery when it is connected.

I have carefully followed all the steps outlined in the datasheet. I also replaced all components with new ones of the same values and even tested the circuit in a simplified configuration dedicated solely to battery charging. Despite all efforts, the issue persists.

Could you please advise what might be causing this behaviour? because we are now in the production process and it would be grateful if you could help us to solve this problem.

Hello @fb1,

Could you please send the schematic that shows the connections for the MP2658? It would also be helpful to get some waveforms of hiccupping behavior that you were describing. If possible I think captures of the input, PMID, SW, ACOK and battery current would be pretty helpful. What is your charge current?
