MP2625BGL with no battery connected

Our product in some configurations needs to use the MP2625BGL chip without a battery connected. It appears, though, that it cuts off the output current at SYS pin at quite low threshold (100 mA or so), unless we connect a real battery to BATT pin.

What are we doing wrong? We have M0, M1, SYSFB floating.

Hi,

Thank you for posting on the MPS Technical Forum.

Since you are floating M0 and M1, I would expect the current to be limited to 2A. 100mA is quite low comparatively. I have a few follow up questions:

  • What are you supplying to the input (IN pin)?
  • What resistor value do you have connected to the ILIM pin?
  • What voltage are you seeing at the SYS pin?
  • For what period of time does the battery need to be disconnected?

Thank you for your patience,

Allison
