MP2617H battery management

Hi all,

I have 2 questions about how the MP2617H deals with the battery.

  • Is the load powered by the battery when Vin=0V. Datasheet page 21, last sentence of the “DDPM” part says “yes”, but the flowchart page 22-23 says nothing happens if Vin<3V. Does it mean the battery will power the load if Vin is REMOVED only ? Or can the battery power the load as soon as it’s plugged in, with Vin=0V all the time ? If not, is there a recommended way to start the IC ?
  • Is there any kind of reverse polarity protection on the MP2617H in case the battery is inserted in wrong direction. If not, is there any recommendation please ?

Thank you in advance

Hello, apologies for the delayed response.

I would say that page 21 of the last portion of the Dynamic Power Path Management block diagram corroborates with the battery being able to power the load through the MP2617H as shown:

There is a direct FET path that allows this to happen, so no worries there. The flow diagram on the next page doesn’t necessarily indicate that this doesn’t happen.

As for the reverse polarity protection for the battery, the datasheet doesn’t seem to explicitly show this in the block diagram or mention this.

Best,

Krishan
