MP26123 / MP2619 operation without battery

Hello! I am new to circuit design and I would like to ask for advice:
I want to power and charge a device with the MP26123 (or MP2619). Usually the device is to be powered by an adapter, but occasional mobile operation is desirable.

It should be possible that the device is powered by adapter power only, with no battery connected/installed. My question:

Is this mode of operation permissible with this battery management controller? If not, is there a more suitable solution or could the typical implementation be modified in a way that allows for a missing battery connection?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,

The MP26123 and the MP2619 should be capable of providing power to your device in the case of no battery present.

For the MP26123, please see figure 3 and the Power Path Management section of the data sheet to understand how to setup the system to provide power to the device.

For both of these devices, if there is no battery present, you will likely trigger the timer fault from staying in the trickle charge too long, this will cause the charger to signal a fault and suspend charging.

I hope this helps.
