MP2457 Recommended Capacitor

Hi,
I was starting a new design with MP2457, and I was very surprised by the recommended bulk capacitor on power output. Recommened values are 470µF for 12V supply, and 100µF for 5V supply.
Seems to me that a simple 10µF would fit. Why such values?
Have you got additional deisghn data?
Thanks.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for contacting the MPS Forum. This question is addressed in the datasheet under the selecting the output capacitor section:

If you are not using a power meter application, you can get stable results with ceramic capacitors instead. My recommendation is to try things out on an evaluation board of this device with the set up that you plan on using for your project. You can experiment with the capacitors that way to see what works best for your system. You may find that the 10uF is suitable with a 0.1uF decoupling cap if you are not involved in a power meter application.

Thanks,
