Min. regulation current for MPQ3326-AEC1

Hi!

We would like to use MPQ3326-AEC1 in an automotive application to drive RGB LEDs. Usually datasheets specify minimum allowed regulation current but I cannot find that information for this IC. It only specifies the maximum current as 50mA per channel.

We would like to set the max. current via Rset to be 5mA for all channels and then go even lower via analog dimming over I2C for specific channels. Are there any limitiations in doing so?

Best regards,

Matej

Hello Matej,

As far as I know, I don’t believe that there should be any issues with setting your maximum current to 5mA or less.

Do you have an EVQ3326 Evaluation Board here? Are you able to test and check the Rset values for proper system functionality?

Hi @Krishan.FAE ,

unfortunately we do not currently have the development board available, and given the project timeline, it is not feasible to obtain and test one prior to completing the board design.

Any chance you could test it at your end?

Best regards,

Matej

Hi @Krishan.FAE ,

how should we handle unused outputs?

Hi @Krishan.FAE ,

We are close to finalizing the manufacturing documentation and require clarification on this two points prior to proceeding.

Best regards,

Matej

Hello Matej, apologies for the delayed response here.

Unused outputs can be left floating. As for testing with an evaluation board, I’ll need to check the stock that we have in my location. Have you been able to run these tests with the prototypes that you currently have?

Hi @Krishan.FAE ,

thank you very much for the help regarding unused outputs. I got an answer from FAE Marc via email regarding min. regulation current. For anyone also interested in this in the future, the FAE tested and confirmed that the regulation current can be set to 5mA and lowered even more with dimming (up to ADIM duty=1%, cca. 500uA was tested).

Best regards,

Matej
