When using 2 Magnetic Encoders (MAQ470) in side shaft mode, is there a particular reason this application note (Introducing the MagAlpha MAQ430 & MAQ470 | Article | MPS) says they must be spaced 180 or 90 degrees? Is there any reason the sensors couldn’t be closer together if they were still angled normal to the magnetic shaft axis?

There is no constraint about the angular distance between sensors, besides their size of course. I assume the article mentioned 90° and 180° as an example.
