MA735 ABZ output with multiple pole pairs

Hi, We have made a small pcb with this sensor with the intention to use it together with a custom made 4 pole pair magnet off axis positioned. When we use ABZ outputs we have an issue that we get a full rotation indexing output 4 times per full revolution. We cannot find in the datasheet where or if this can be programmed somehow? Is it possible to get this correctly so that we get an indexing output every 4:th pole pair? We used your online tool where this setup was possible to evaluate. As for now the motor inverter gets confused because it expects an indexing pulse output every full lap.

Hello Mikael,

The sensor outputs a pulse on Z every time the detected angle is 0° (zero-crossing). Since the magnet you are using has 4 pole pairs, the sensor detects a zero-crossing 4 times for each full mechanical rotation.

Unfortunately, there is no internal parameter to change this. This leaves two options:

  • Use a single pole-pair magnet
  • Process the Z output via hardware or software to send a pulse to the inverter every 4th pulse generated by the sensor.

How is the Z signal used by the inverter?
