Looking for a Battery Charger IC

Hello

I’m looking for a charger IC but with specials needs for my application.

  • Charging 1 cell type Lithium polymer
  • The maximum power available at the input is a regulated 5V 1.6W
  • The system Load may consume more than 4W at full power but much less in idle mode ( 330mW)
  • Current limiting depending the mode is preferable
  • Power path is may be needed
  • At full power the charger must disconnect the main power to prioritize the battery
  • GPIO are available to change mode
  • A non BGA style package is preferable

Thanks for helping me

Hello daniel.zanardi,

please look into the following part MP2667 | 5V USB, 1000mA, I2C-Controlled Linear Charger with Power Path Management for Single-Cell, Li-Ion Battery in QFN Package | MPS.

This has i2c capability where you should be able to make adjustments. I wasn’t able to find a part with GPIO pins.

Interessting but all setup is by I2C

To be more precise due to Main power input restriction 2W / 5V

Mode 1: The system Load is Idle ( low power 50ma )

In this mode i 'd like to charge the battery and power the load at the same time. ( charging current approx 300mA)

Mode 2 : Operationnal : The system Load is awake at full power (2A from the batteries )

In this mode i want the charger to be disconected and no power from the main input should power the Load but only the battery.

IS the part MP2633 is suitable ?

The charge current can be set through the Iset resistor. This part supports up to 1.5A out at Vsys through boost mode.

Is Vsys is enabled while charging as described in MODE 1: ?
charging current limited to 300mA and Vsys Load is about 50ma ?

Is the EN pin has to be tied high by Vsys to avoid to be locked in sleep mode ?

Do you have a part with the same features but with more current at Vsys ?
