Lenovo Legion Go – Burnt L1/L2 inductor near KTZ8866 backlight driver, need correct value and size

Hello,

I am repairing a Lenovo Legion Go motherboard with a backlight issue. The device works normally with an external display, but the internal screen has no backlight.

Near the backlight driver IC (KTZ8866), one of the inductors labeled L1/L2 appears burnt or damaged.

I would like to confirm the correct component specifications:

1. What is the recommended inductor value used with the KTZ8866 backlight driver in this configuration?

2. What SMD package size is typically used (0402 / 0603 / 0805)?

3. Is replacing only the inductor usually sufficient if the IC itself is still functional?

The system still powers on and video output works externally, so I suspect the issue is isolated to the backlight power circuit.

I will attach photos of the motherboard area and the damaged component for reference.

Thank yo

Hello,

While the KTZ8866 backlight driver is not an MPS part, you should check the typical application of the datasheet.

There are multiple packages that can be used.

Generally, the inductor failing in a system like this may have been due to some overstress case and can lead to shorted behavior. When replacing the inductor, it would be best to check if the IC itself is also damaged.

When seeing the typical inductor used in the datasheet, it would be best to size the inductor with some headroom while also sustaining the size.

MPS has a wide array of inductors to choose from with many package types:
