Diffrerences between MPS4033 and MPS4056

What are the differences between the MPS4033 and the MPS4056, the datasheets are virtually identical and both datasheet show example designs using each to control isolated flyback drivers. I’m trying to determine which one to use for my application.

you might maybe want to share a little info about your application. I am leaning to 4033 right now.
Input voltage range, output load at a start

Hello,

Welcome to the MPS Forum! The MP4033 is the parent product to the MP4056, both parts have similar functionality but are aimed for slightly different applications. Additionally, the MP4056 is optimized non-isolated topologies and for low-cost designs. I have attached links to our evaluation modules that are designed for targeted applications for your reference.

The MP4033 is typically designed for driving a 10W Triac dimmable LED bulb with 24VTYP, 420mA LED load from 198VAC to 265VAC, 50Hz.

MP4033 Evaluation Module:
EV4033-K-00A | 198VAC~265VAC/50Hz, 24V/420mA Primary-side-control with Active PFC Off-line Dimmable LED Driver Evaluation Board | MPS

The MP4056 is typically designed for driving a 16W TRIAC dimmable LED bulb with 48VTYP, 340mA LED load from 198VAC to 265VAC, 50Hz.

MP4056 Evalutation Module:
EV4056-K-00A | 198VAC~265VAC/50Hz, 48V/340mA Low Cost, Non-isolated with Active PFC TRIAC Dimmable LED Driver Evaluation Board for MSOP-10 package type. | MPS

Could you provide some additional information regarding your application? What is your input, output, and typical load?

My requirements are:
Power: 15W
LED string voltage: 36V
Input AC voltage range: 90-305Vac
Topology: isolated flyback
TRIAC as well as 0-10V dimmable. Planning on using the PWM dimming input pin to interface with the 0-10V dimming circuit.

In this case, I believe the MP4033 will be well suited for your application. I’ve attached an application note for the MP4033 for your reference:

Microsoft Word - AN080_r1.0

If using the analog dimming, connect a PWM signal (<200 Hz) to the NTC Pin.

Can you expand on why the MPS4033 is more suited to this application? Specifically what is different about it versus the MPS4056?

One is 2 years newer. Do you suppose they may have learned something more about the application in those intervening two years? Aps engineers rarely say “don’t use that part, it is crap” many of them have mortgages. They sure look similar
