DC to DC buck converter

Hi,

i want to design buck converter for following specifications.

Vin- 10 to 30V DC
Vout- 6V, 2.5A (constant current)
Any suitable ic for above specification?

application is for LED lighting

Hi Tanvir,

I would recommend looking at the MP2480 for your application. Our FAE team will contact you directly to further assist with this request.

Thanks bryan,
but i am doubtful because of internal switch it will take my load current 2.5A constant without any failure like heating.

It should be fine, but you can’t really tell from the MPS datasheet. They specify the typical rds of the switch but no maximum. So you can fill any number you want in there.

The switch only carries the 2.5A some of the time, the other time the catch diode carries the current. In your case if the LED is 6V and the Vin is 12V the duty cycle is about 50%. So 50% of the time the switch carries 2.5A and 50% of the time the diode carries the current. The dissipation in the switch then is 2.5^2 times the who knows what rds times 0.5 ( duty cycle)

If we accept .15 as rds the ohmic loss in the chip is a little lower than 500mW. The package is allowed 2.5W so good margin.
