Charging Current is too low

Hi,

I am currently using the MP2672AGD battery charger IC. I have connected a 5 V, 2 A adapter as the input power source. However, when I connect the adapter, the battery charging current is only about 300 mA.

I am also sharing my schematic. Could you please help me identify the possible cause of this issue? Is there anything in the schematic or circuit configuration that could be limiting the charging current?

What is value of R28? the one on ISET pin? it is not very readable

R28 value is 12k ohm.

That should give you 1A max current. I have read on the forum, that current is gets lower as the battery voltage rises. I can confirm that behavior - at ~8.1v the current starts falling to about 300mA

I assume you did not change charge current in register 01 from defaults. Setting Icc value to 0 would also give you about 300mA

I checked the charging current at different battery voltages.
At 7.0 V, the charging current is 0 mA.
At 7.5 V, the charging current is approximately 300 mA.
Also, my design is configured in Standalone Mode, not Host-Control Mode. The I²C (SDA/SCL) pins are not used.
Could you suggest what other conditions might cause this behavior in Standalone Mode?

Hiii….could you please reply still i am waiting for your reply!!!

In schematic you seem to have VCC connected to CV pin. That is host mode setup. But either way, if your SCL/SDA pins are unused, the Icc register value defaults to 0xF, so you should see higher current. Unless you trigger VLIM condition, but that would be unlikely with 2A charger.

Assuming that the chip is in host mode, can you dump register values via I2C?

I checked the Icc register value via I²C, and it reads 0x01. the charging current remains 0 mA. Please let me know if you would like me to check any other things to check.

Hi,

Its been 5 days, The problem is still there, Is ther any possibility we can conenct for a discussion over any channel, may be a phone call or what ever feasible, and then resolve this, I would be really gratefull, We have validated all the possible situtaion for lesser Charging current, but all of them are correct as per data sheet and your as you asked to check.

Please support on priority.

Hello Balakrishna,

Given the urgency of support that you need, I think it might be best to submit a ticket such that you can get direct and local support from an FAE to debug this issue further. Please use the following link: Contact MPS - Troubleshooting and Debugging

On that note, I think it would be useful to see the full register dump in the meantime.

Hi,

We would like to understand the possible causes of this issue and work together to resolve it. We can connect over a phone call to discuss the problem in detail.

My contact number is 993924099. Please feel free to call me whenever you are available. We would appreciate your support in resolving this issue as soon as possible.

my contact number is - 9939240999.

Hi Krishna, I have already raised the debugging things I received email confirmation well now its not moving forward, Please expedicte the process. Email Id - vikrant.gupta@smartsocs.com

Hi,

Thank you for the update.

I received the email confirmation, but I have not received any further communication or response from the local support team on my email ID [vikrant.gupta@smartsocs.com]. i didn’t have any communication through phone call also.

Could you please check the status and help expedite the process? We are still facing the issue, and your support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
