Charger with shutdown mode

Hello ,

I’m looking for a battery charger able to charge 2s li-on with current limiting AND a kind off shut down mode/PIN that would not draw any current of the battery (low leakage curent).

This mode would be used to carry the final product in a “sleep” mode.

It is aso called Shipping mode / Storage mode or Standby mode

MP2760 and 2651 are compatible but a little bit complicated

Hi Daniel,

MP2651 part does not have a Power Path or commonly referred to as “NVDC power path” feature when compared to MP2760. The power path feature also enables the charger IC to physically disconnect the battery from all other internal ICs to reduce battery drain which is called the shipping mode.

So in your case, I feel MP2760 is a good choice, I would also recommend you taking a look at the advanced version of this part - MP2762A if you are interested in using OTG mode.

hello ,

Thanks you for your answer , MP2760 or MP2762 are a little too complexe to use, besides can you explain how the shipping mode is working , how much current it draws from the battery while this mode.

Do you have a standalone similar part ( No I2C ) ?

Thx

Hi Daniel,

The shipping mode is named as standby mode in the datasheet, refer the note from the datasheet capture:

Additionally, in standby mode, Q1–Q4 are turned off, and the system is powered by the battery via the external battery FET. During this mode, it can draw a maximum current of 39.3 uA depending on the battery voltage.

Do you have a standalone similar part ( No I2C ) ?

  • We do have several standalone linear chargers such as [MP2700], [MP2702] which has no NVDC feature but shutdown mode.
  • I would also recommend this part MP2672A if you are interested in having a NVDC feature, its a boost charger which has two configuration modes: standalone mode and host-control mode. In host-control mode, the charging parameters can be configured via the I2C, while standalone mode allows certain parameters to be adjusted by connecting resistors to the CV and ISET pins.
