Buck component recommendation

Hey,

I’m looking for a recommendation for a buck converter with the following parameters:

Vin = 5.5V - 17V (but i want the device to have vin max higher than 36V)

Vout = 5V (adjustable)

Iout max = 4.4A (nominal around 2.5A)

Low frequency, long term reliability, programmable soft start, ovp, ocp

Thanks, very appreciated

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the forum!

My recommendation is MP8880A with the following parameters:

You can find more information about this part on the MPS website here.

Thanks for the recommendation!

  1. I can’t get the datasheet because i don’t have Mps+ (i don’t know why it got rejected)
  2. The Iout 4.4A i got is from assumptions in the rest of the power tree i made so i assume the efficiency can be even in the rest of the converters. 4.5A is very low margin and i prefer something with higher current capabilities.
  3. I have a scenario when the Vin can drop to 5.5V so i need it to perform at high duty cycle (in 70 degrees)

Thanks again

I thought about MP8759GD but its maximum input is 26V and it doesn’t has configurable current limit but can handle up to 8A continuous current which is a good overhead for me.

So if you have something similar to that but only with current limit option that will be great (i can live with lower vin but must be higher than 25V)

Thank you for your patience, I am working on getting an answer back to you!

Best,

Lauren

I think MP8720 will be good for your application.

Here are the parameters:

It has built in soft start, but if you need adjustable soft-start you can combine it with an E-fuse at the output.
