About nFAULT behavior in MP6531

I am using the MP6531A. According to the datasheet, it states that nFAULT is driven low when certain fault conditions occur. My questions are as follows:

  1. I would like to confirm whether nFAULT is asserted low in each of the following cases:
  • When VIN UVLO occurs

  • When VREG UVLO occurs during the initial start-up

  • When VREG UVLO occurs while the motor is running

Please advise.

  1. If nFAULT is not asserted low for the three fault conditions above, the MCU may continue outputting PWM without realizing a fault has occurred. In that case, is there any way for the MCU to detect these faults? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi @hjjeong ,

For the MP6531A,

  1. If VIN falls below UVLO threshold (typ 3.9V), then nFAULT is asserted low.
  2. If VREG falls below UVLO threshold (typ 7.8V) while motor is running (after power-up), then nFAULT is asserted low.
  3. The device is not functional if VREG does not rise above 7.8V (typ) at start-up. VREG needs to be above UVLO threshold before the device becomes functional.

Thanks,
