I have design an AGV in that we have used DC-DC convertors and we are facing voltage spike of 60v and approx 100ms
and my DC-DC convertors limit is 40v
Now, i would like to design the over voltage protection which should be MOSFTER based only. TVS diode,MOV doesnt work in this application
I need a IC that can monitor the voltage and control the power mosfet
Analog/Linear makes something called a surge stopper. basically you hold the gate of a N type pass transistor at some voltage, say 30V. Any time the source tries to get about 28V or so the FET loses drive and goes high impedance. So spikes on the input above 28V or so are rejected.
I don’t get the hesitancy to use MOV/TVS this is kind of the standard solution and used in billions.
@hareshp
Zener diode clamp the voltage.
End of story.
Enjoy~
Hello,
I would need to know some more about your application before I can recommend anything specific. Please create a ticket at this link so we can give you some targeted support.
One thing I can recommend before knowing more details is this article on designing reverse current protection circuitry using FETs that could be adapted to clamping the voltage to 40V or below.
