Hi all,
I am working on a design that requires a 2S system, with a charging input range from 5v to 20v. As another requirement, we need to be able to do power path management, such that the system is able to pull from a combination of the charging port, and battery as needed to continuously power the load even if the charger can’t keep up. Additionally, the cells must be balanced and reasonably protected. Ultimately we plan to regulate the output to 5V, and intend on drawing around 12W, or peak 15W from the regulated supply.
Based on these requirements, it seems that the MP2672 would perform all of these tasks in one unit, however the current limitation of 2A on the system rail seems to be pushing it for our power budget (estimated to be around 12W @ 5V once regulated). Looking at other ICs, the MP2762 does have a higher current capability, but does not have integrated cell balancing, pack protection, or fuel gauging from what I can tell. Is there another IC that would perform these functions? From what I can see, all of the battery protectors and cell balancers are designed for 4S or 7S and above (MP2793 or MP2787 as examples).
Is there another IC from MP or another vendor that could accompany the MP2762 that could fulfill our requirements? Alternatively, is there another IC that you guys would suggest for doing this task?
Thanks in advance!
